If you really want to learn how to wipe data or cache or any partitions on your Android phone using TWRP recovery. 


Well, there is lot many situations when you actually need to wipe the data just because you want to get your phone reset on the factory settings. If you wish to get a custom ROM installed on your device, then you have to wipe data partitions. Android has a system of partition layout which comprises of the system partition, boot partition, cache partition and other.

How many partitions are there to Wipe:-

Basically Android has a partition layout of the whole system. There are boot partition, System Partition, Data Partition, Cache partition and prior to Android Lollipop there was Dalvik Cache.

Pre-requirements:-

  • Make a full backup of your data.
  • TWRP recovery should be installed.
  • Phone should minimum 50% charged.

How to wipe data partitions using a TWRP recovery

1. Firtst reboot your device to recovery mode.
2.Now  click on the Wipe touch button.


3.Now on the wipe screen swipe the button at the bottom of the screen to proceed to Factory Reset. 


5.The Factory Reset will clean Data partition, Cache partition and the Dalvik cache partition.

For Manual Wipe

1. If you want to clean everything on your phone then go to Advanced Wipe option and then select the partitions you want to wipe.
2. Select the Dalvik Cache, Data, Cache, System partition which you want to to Wipe.
(It is recommended not to select Internal storage and micro sd.)

For some devices it is required to convert the filesystem before you wipe.
3.Now on the swipe the button at the bottom of the screen to proceed to wipe.
